Cafeteria Formosa

UT Live Design

ABOUT THE PROJECT

An immersive, site-specific performance wherein audience members and performers explore the nuances, complexities, and delights of individual identity in an engaging, all-you-can eat food cart stop called Cafeteria Formosa. Your imagination is the only limit - each and every dish sparks a unique story for the eater.

The audience experience begins on a street corner. While walking down a busy city street, a woman asks herself “Where am I going?” Wherever she walks on her journey, the audience follows. In a mysterious answer to her question Cafeteria Formosa materializes. The woman and the audience are transported to a magical space where food means much more than simple physical nourishment--it is deeply personal, infused with the comedy and ordinary sadness of life in all its wonder. Together we embark on a journey of discovery with the customers and staff of Cafeteria Formosa, where the menu includes everything from GRANDMA’S FRIDGE to RAIN. A delicious storytelling journey that asks the audience and the performers alike, “have you eaten yet?”

WORK AND PROCESS SAMPLES

Every audience member received this menu. The menu served as both a program, and a set of prompts to create the dishes ordered by audience members.
